Hello, In this issue we will talk about the advantages of wallpaper. Why should you wallpaper ?

People ask me this question all the time, They will say, is it harder to do ? or what about when it is time to change wont it be harder then? Or doesn’t it cost more? and so on.

The great thing with wallpaper is that it is harder to do but once it is done it is done for along time. You can get 10 to 15 years from wallpaper.I do
not know about you but that sounds great to me. When I paint a room it seems like before long I am painting it again. Especially with children :-)

When it comes to redoing a room that has been wall papered if the room was prepared properly the change should not be to difficult. By that I mean, a good primer applied under the paper makes removal easier. There are methods for removing paper also.

In the long run it can be cost effective, do to the amount of years you can get from paper. And nothing compares to the beauty and warmth you get from wallpaper. It will add so much character to a room.

Wallpaper will change the whole visual appearance of a room. It can brighten a room, add lots of character, make it warm and cozy and even make it look bigger and that sometimes surprises people. It will bring out your personal personality.

The impact wallpaper has on a room in just 1 application is amazing. The color, the design, the character, the mood it creates.

Create a theme through out your house. Wallpaper will give you an assortment of colors to work with right from within the paper. I am going with a Victorian theme in my house.

Wallpaper will bring out things in your home that were lost with plain white walls. Accentuating angles and fire places and much
more. Even a pedestal sink will look completely different against Wallpaper then just a plain wall.

My personal accountant shared with me that wallpaper adds value to your Home that is always nice.:-)

Wallpaper is always in. It will never go out of fashion. Not even foe finish painting can capture the beauty that wallpaper offers. The paper companies are always coming up with new patterns to keep up with
the latest trend and still keeping the old patterns which I like.

Well this is just a few examples of the benefits of wallpaper. You may even be able to think of more. I hope you enjoyed this.
Happy hanging :-)
Thanks and take care,
John J. Aufiero

****** Paperhanging Tip of the Day *******
I will try and do better at keeping new tips here often. Please keep coming back.

**** NEW TIPS ****
*Random Matches are exactly what they say they are. RANDOM. In other words, you don't have to worry about matching anything. You will
just cut your wallcovering the length you need and hang it on the wall. A solid color wallcovering with no pattern would be one example of a RANDOM match wallcovering. Obviously with this type of wallcovering you have no pattern matching worries at all.

*Plan the wallpaper layout.
Preplanning will save time and help eliminate mistakes. Plan the room by taking the width of the wallpaper and marking it off strip by strip (with a pencil) around the room to anticipate where each seam will fall. Keep in mind, to achieve the best results, try to avoid 2" or smaller strips next to door or window frames, cabinets, etc. Try starting the measurement out of the most visible corner and adjust it if you run into small strips next to frames, cabinets, mirrors, etc.

* Wallpaper Tips
%The pattern of the paper should be lined up at the ceiling, when cutting the paper. To be sure your paper will cover the full length of the wall leave at least 2 inches at the top and bottom. This will guarantee that there will be enough to cover the full length of the wall and if the pattern need matching, there is room to adjust.
%The paper must be wet completely, if it is pre-pasted allow it to set for a few minutes in the paper water bath. If you are using non prepasted paper and are placing the adhesive to the back of the paper, make sure it is totally covered.
%Use a damp sponge or rag to wipe off the glue that seeps out at the edges. Seal the edges by rolling with a wallpaper roller.
%When working with corners hang the paper in two parts. Measure the distance from the corner to the previously hung sheet. Cut a strip of paper ½ inch wider than the distance. The strip should be hung so that the paper overlaps the corner. Using the remainder of the sheet, from which the strip was cut, measures the full width and mark a plumb line that width in on the new wall. This strip can then be pasted in the same manner. Now if you can get this right you are moving right along!

Paperhanging Wall Preparation.
Just as an artist always primes her canvas, preparing your walls is essential. Of course, different walls demand different types of preparation.

New Walls: With new plaster walls, ideally you should wait between 30 to 90 days before hanging wallpaper. Most contractors, however, don’t have that luxury, so they wash the walls with a zinc sulfate solution to neutralize the lime in the plaster. (2-4lbs. of zinc sulfate crystal in a gallon of water does the job.) Then prime with wallpaper primer specially formulated for the type of wallpaper you'll be hanging.

New drywall calls for a pigmented or opaque wallpaper primer specifically made to be used with the type of wallpaper you are hanging. This product will minimize seam show through. Consult with your wallpaper dealer to get the best product for the job.

Old painted walls: Remove any loose paint and lightly sand away irregularities. Wash the walls to remove surface dirt. Fill in any cracks or holes with spackling compound and seal with an oil-based primer. Cover any stains with a stain-killing primer and then coat the entire wall with a wallpaper primer made to be used with the wallpaper you've chosen.

Previously wallpapered walls: Today most commercial wallpapers are "strippable" and easy to remove. Older wallpapers may be tougher. First, tear away loose paper. Score remaining paper with a scoring tool or heavy grade sandpaper. Saturate the paper with wallpaper remover and gently scrape away the old paper. Wash the walls, let dry, then apply a wallpaper primer made to be used with the wallpaper you're hanging.

Mold and mildew on walls: Let dry, remove with a solution of 2 cups of household bleach per gallon of water. Rinse, let dry and seal with a stain-killing primer. Then apply wallpaper primer made to used with the wallpaper you're using.

The Bedroom: Need shelves for your smaller decorations? Get a round piece of wood from the hardware store (less than 12 inches in diameter) and have the hardware personnel cut it in half. Glue a short piece of wood underneath and perpendicular to the circle. Hammer two picture-hangers or wall-hooks into the circle and hang on to your wall. Don't forget to paint the shelf before hanging. For a neat effect, ask if your local craft store can cut a circular piece of glass in half and glue the semi-circle to the back of your shelf.

Add frills to plain tab curtains by tying little bows to each top tab. Or tie bows to the hooks.

The Bathroom: Gather together some wallpaper border (ask your house-owning friends or ask for some samples at the local hardware store). Glue a thin line of border around your plastic trashcan for a new look. Try to match the border with your shower curtain. Even better, get some wallpaper with easy-to-cut-out patterns and glue some of the pieces to a matching soap dispenser and cup. If you really want to be creative, you could make a picture frame out of the same wallpaper border and hang a nice picture on the bathroom wall.

Hot glue little flowers or decorations to your shower curtain hooks. Use super glue if you want to glue metal or plastic items to your shower rings for a stronger hold. Clusters of seashells with tiny starfish look cute glued to every other hook, or glue a cluster to your soap dish.

Quick Changes
Accessories don’t have to stay in the same place in your home forever. Change them as often as you like. Change them frequently to create a different look for a new season or holiday or just to create some new interest and personality in your home. Occasionally move a few accessories to different locations in the room, or from one room to another for an instant makeover. A picture and accessory item can look very different in a different setting. I do this quite often in my home. It’s my way of keeping things interesting without spending more money, every time I want a new look. The colors are already correct, so I just move them around and have fun seeing how many different ways I can use the same old items. Sometimes an item will be discovered in a new setting, and never noticed in the old. We can make the most of what we have by using this tip over and over again.

Garden Theme Headboard
Take advantage of the popularity of gardening and nature. An adorable way to create a garden theme for a girl’s room or guest room is to buy a length of wood picket fencing, roughly two feet high and two post and caps for the ends. Paint it pure white and attach to the wall at the appropriate height. This looks darling against a sky blue wall. Add birdhouses, flower boxes, watering cans and other related accessories to the room. Pretty soon you will have a room envied by all, even the butterflies!

++++++++
PLACE THE LARGEST PIECES FIRST In furnishing any room the major piece for the primary activity of the room must be considered first - the sofa in the living room, the bed in the bedroom, the desk in the office. This piece in most cases should face the focal point of the room. The focal point can be a view window, fireplace or, as is often the case, the television. Large pieces should be evenly distributed so as not to put the room off balance. Leave room around them for the best affect. In selecting these pieces, keep the architectural shapes in the room in mind. To echo a curved bay window with a curved sectional sofa or curved desk is pleasing to the eye. BE AWARE OF TRAFFIC PATTERNS You can direct the flow of traffic through a room with the placement of your furniture. Leave a minimum of two and a half feet for walkways and avoid flowing traffic through a conversational grouping if possible. Guide the traffic around the room's perimeter to create a less disruptive environment. Be aware of the usage of adjacent rooms in laying out your floor plan and flow colors from one adjacent room to the next when they are visible from one another. "Home is where the Heart is" .. so put some "HEART" in your home !!
